Who are War Survivors?
Military Veterans
Perhaps the most obvious of the war survivors, military service members are greatly impacted by war — sometimes physically, but inevitably psychologically and emotionally. The invisible wounds of war are often more damaging than the physical.
Civilians
Civilians — men, women, and children, who often play no active part in war — are nevertheless impacted greatly by conflict. Helen Stacy, a Stanford scholar put it this way: “These are the people who suffer first, last, and in the middle.”
