In early 2017 Students for War Survivors’ (SWSI) Seattle Chapter conducted a clothing donation drive to help refugees of war in camps in the middle east. This drive was a big success, as noted on SWSI facebook post: Due to UNHCR policy, clothing was not allowed into Iraq, yet WSI delivered 1,000 lbs. of clothing to partners International Rescue Committee Seattle Chapter and the MAYE Center in Long Beach CA for distribution to various refugee groups in Seattle and the Cambodian community in Long Beach.
“A HUGE THANK YOU to everyone who donated! We are so overwhelmed by the amount of care and support (and clothes!) we have received from the Ballard community and… beyond. An extra special thank you to Grumpy D’s Coffee House, Sip and Ship, and Holy Grounds Coffeehouse for being a part of this drive. We are eternally grateful for everything you have done for this drive. What you see in these pictures is only one part of the donations. We really didn’t anticipate this much generosity, but we aren’t surprised. Thanks everyone!”
Walk for War Survivors – 2017
The first annual Walk for War Survivors was held in Long Beach, CA, September 17, 2017. This was a round-trip 8-mile walk from Los Altos Plaza Park to the Veterans Memorial Pier with a stop in the Belmont Brewing Company (https://www.belmontbrewing.com/), who provided water and beer tastes for the walkers. All benefits will go to the Path to Whole Health healing seminars for Veterans of War.
